When it comes to for how long or how much we must work, the only acceptable direction is less than now, never more. Working for money isn't something people do purely out of joy, it's something they must do to survive. /

In the end, we want to enjoy our lifes, and for that we need time for us. Having time for us is an essential part of our well-being, we can't be well if we can't do the things we want to do. The purpose of the state is to serve it's people, it should maximize their wellfare / well-being. /

Requiring us to work more means we have less time for us, it directly impacts our well-being, and thus lowers our wellfare, which is counter to the goal of increasing wellfare. /

Some may claim more work is neccessary, but it is usally very questionable if it actually leads to any gains, it may even be counter productive, and it certainly won't improve anyones well-being more than it harms ours directly.
