But why is US GDP per capita higher if labor productivity is the same as in Germany? The answer is: Americans are working much, much more. German workers are putting in 1350 hours per year, American workers: 1800... That is 33% more! That's pretty much the whole secret.

EU & Ukraine are winning the war almost on their own. Russia is weak. Add UK & we should be fine. R is not USSR, but for most E dipl & govs, they have a wrong perception of R military strength, unlike Sikorsky. This then leads to the wrong assumption that US is needed for security gurantees later

I did read the article, but I can't find where they talk about excluding farm work? I only see them comparing Western European countries and EU-27, noting that it drops for the latter to slightly below US.

Though your article does adjust for PPP in the statistics contrary to FT - though I'm unsure if that explains the difference entirely and what the factor is. Also interesting the note that oil-rich countries have unusually high productivity.

Why exactly would you exclude farm work? Farmers don't count? This does sound like farmers are particularly badly paid in the US and not in Europe so it sounds like cherry picking. It's not that farming is all manual work and industry is not.

Well it seems to hide a much larger difference outside of farming. The article makes the case that this is because Europe failed to reap efficiency gains of digital technologies.

Of course it is cherry-picking, but that doesn't make the gap outside farming less real. It could still be explained by purchasing power parity.

It's like the myth that London has become really dangerous the same year it recorded its lowest ever rates for violent crime. The right wing media/misinformation machine has been working well.

I always find it amusing how the only people saying Europe is in decline are those not living in it. Over a decade, all I've seen is stable economy, safety, rising salaries (and price for goods also), and actual order. Meanwhile the US is in chaos, one bubble pop away from economical collapse.

There’s really no numbers that indicate a decline. These people think they see the first signs of a decline, nothing more.

It is crazy to me that Gabriel Zucman keeps telling stuff that is obvious and face elite backlash over and over again, the law he promoted recently in france did not pass and is a good exemple of this. Of course, this article provides data which is great but righties can't read anyway
