So here's a thing I notice about the people going on about how 'progs are failing children'. Quite often they're literally from the generation when education was vaguely progressive (although it's never been that progressive tbh). Well, it clearly didn't fail them did it? They seem well educated. 🤷‍♀️

I feel blessed to have been at Primary School in the mid 70's. We did Maths and English daily, but found room for other things. We had assembly daily, sang, had a choir & orchestra. We did art, PE, topic work, weekly. We performed, rehearsed plays. It was the making of me. I can add up and spell. 😁

Similar for me in the 80s. I loved school, and the curriculum felt balanced. There was time to learn lots of different things, be creative, perform and, importantly, enjoy being a child, rather than just sitting at desks. Learning was enjoyable; school was fun.

I often tell people, what made me the person you see wasn't exams, or even Art College, it was my Primary School. It made creativity valuable, and I ended up working in an Arts Centre, I was in a band for over 10 years, recording and gigging, I've been an artist now for 40 years. 🙂
