We agree that renewables are growing faster than energy demand but what follows is fallacy: "As long as this goes on for a decade or two more, then fossil fuels will, by simple arithmetic, be forced into retreat". Graph is in %s, which hides that energy keeps growing, energy sources keep being added
The more we can deliver, the more resources we consume. Rather than transitioning, "what we are doing with renewables, to a lesser extent with electric cars, is that we are reducing the carbon intensity of the economy." — Jean-Baptiste Fressoz, historian

As the primary energy fallacy continued to be ignored, humanity failed to see the transition that was underway. Improvements in efficiency with both active and passive technologies indicate viable paths to decarbonization, and leads to reduced resource use per person. bsky.app/profile/xoii...
Is that total energy demand being assessed in terms of primary energy or useful energy? "Because it means that as we electrify, total primary energy demand can actually go down, even as useful energy demand stays constant or grows." - JHAT www.youtube.com/watch?v=qokw...
While it's true that we can decarbonize everything other than overconsumption, that wasn't the argument you were making when you wrote, "using more renewable energies does not lower emissions or pollution." Which is not only incorrect, it spreads FUD about viable solutions. bsky.app/profile/xoii...
Well actually, we just need everyone to cook with charcoal on three stone fires, eat from the highest trophic levels, and use whale oil lamps to read about Jevons paradox. The solution is to use inefficient technologies, so people will use less energy and fewer resources. bsky.app/profile/xoii...
There is policy of *adding* renewables. Habitability requires policies of *avoiding* fossil energy.
"The central problem is not the pace at which renewables are being added, but the social & economic system that determines trajectories of global energy use. A real transition can only happen through the rapid & permanent reduction in the absolute consumption of coal, oil & gas..." #ClimateCrisis
