In all seriousness, I'm convinced the issue is not how it was made but who's responsible i.e. who has something to lose when things go wrong.

If authorship is nebulous and the license or legal framework offers no guarantees, consider not using that software. (I'm not sure it's really a new problem, it's just more sensitive during this transitional period)
