the question "is it 2027 next year" is badly formed English tense wise. Maybe that throws Google for a loop and scrambles whatever meaning it was putting together. However the properly formed question "will it be 2027 next year" results in the same garbage

Now I'm wondering if this is why Walmart still had a brand new 2025 calendar in January I accidentally bought because I thought it was cute and had a headache and didn't think they'd have a one year old calendar for sale. :C

Oh come on, don’t you get it? Google is not restricted by our limited dimensional constructs where time only flows forward. Who’s to say that 2028 won’t be followed by 2027? It’s our feeble human perceptions that are the problem—clearly.

I just don’t get why they’re doing it. Their value in Search has always been that they give the best answer the fastest, and they’re sabotaging themselves with these broken features. 🙃

LLMs are doing numbers well to predict the next letter, basically. It's It's based on so the data fed into training and then whatever prompt it gets (here's that's not just the search but also results). The algorithm is working just as designed, but it's just a guess on how the text should continue

It's just technology that is fundamentally untrustworthy in what text it generates. There's no thinking or understanding here. Never was. Also, there's a bunch of subtle bigotry from the training data that affects results too.

(i know) The issue is not "ai bad", but rather: why are we using AI for things that we already have very straightforward solutions to? Google used to be so FANTASTIC at what it did that it became a verb to mean searching very well. But AI integration has made google a joke.
