i think a lot more hinges on this than i would have thought before. i always assumed that if you gave people the right features, or opportunities, they would take them. but i might have underrated the stickyness of networks. and this is just trying a new website, not travelling to distant lands.

i mean the big stuff, leaving for Mars or elsewhere (my preference being artificial habitats). like the classic question of whether you'd leave earth with friendly aliens or AI to explore the galaxy but may never return.
