🚨 BREAKING: In a loss for Missouri voters, the 8th Circuit rules the GOP's congressional gerrymander should be used for the midterms. The ruling puts the federal court in direct conflict with the Missouri Supreme Court. Now SCOTUS must decide for a third time which map will be used in November.

Intrastate redistricting is for the state. Constitutional requirements are being bastardized by the right against Missouri Constitution. The "supremacy application" in the Missouri filings behaves exactly like a procedural and jurisdictional pretzel.

The nation’s highest court will now be tasked with deciding whether a state supreme court gets the last word on what that state’s laws mean, a simple question for all but the most sweaty and craven of hacks

Because of a prior US Supreme Court decision, Missouri will still hold its general election under the map used in the 2024 elections. The Supreme Court has already cleared the way twice for the older map to be used in November, and ballots were mailed to overseas and military voters last week.

“…we’re in for some chaotic headlines & lots of wasted effort by a bunch of judges and lawyers, but I just don’t see this ending with a change to the status quo- in which Missouri is using, and will use, its 2022 map this cycle If anything, that makes this ruling even more insane.” -Steve Vladeck

No matter if you are far left or right, the folks you put in charge with your vote are telling you to do what they say. What happened to For the people, and By the people?

This is why judges matter so much. If you put in corrupt judges they corrupt the system. The fact that you need judges more corrupt than the 6 Republicans on the supreme court and the Missouri Supreme court is a bit scary.

"Though uncommon, this situation is not unprecedented. Courts around the country have ordered ballot changes after absentee ballots already have been distributed under UOCAVA."

"For all Missouri voters not covered by UOCAVA, absentee ballots may be requested and cast beginning on Sept 22, 2026... That deadline has not yet arrived, and thus general absentee voting has not yet begun. Accordingly, the Sept 22, 2026, absentee ballot commencement date does not moot this case."

If the Supreme Court has not stayed or otherwise altered the permanent injunction by that time, Secretary Hoskins and all others bound by this judgment must fully implement the 2025 map for the November 2026 general election.
