Question for the Senate experts: If Democrats flip the Senate and Alito announces his retirement the next day, can Republicans force a candidate through the pipe in December or is there anything that can block them?

I have wondered if raising a question about McConnel's ability to participate/vote could gum things up, require process/time, maybe result in him having to step (be stepped) aside if he truly can't speak/engage.

Supreme Court nominations are subject to the rules of senate confirmations which allow for a filibuster I believe so I think the nuclear option would be available.

Nope. The filibuster for most confirmations was ended back in Obama's second term and for SC Justices in Trump's first. There are some procedural delays that can be used, but enough to eat up 2 months? It's unlikely, unless at least a couple Republicans are on board.
