“When Obama said he supported civil unions in the run-up to the 2008 and 2012 elections, he was offering gay people a slower pace of progress. When Democrats today triangulate on transgender rights, they are offering us a slower pace of decline.”

When Democrats attempt to triangulate on trans rights, it's my sense that many liberals and people in politics don't understand why many trans people are so upset. I wrote about the differences between then and now, what trans people have lost, and what we still stand to lose

If we don't save our Democracy first, there will be no rights for anyone. ANYONE. Can we take care of the bigger problem first please? My rights as a woman have been trampled since birth but I'm willing to save our Democracy first to then get my equal rights. You don't know MY story.

Would you give up women’s rights to save democracy? I understand the concept of difficult sacrifices. Just can’t help but notice that the people asking us to make them always expect someone else to be up on the altar.

And Obama's entire presidency was an endless exemplar of the folly of making concessions to fascist republicans. He kept stepping rightward and they just stepped away from him over and over and over again. He gained absolutely nothing from them for eight years of capitulations.
