My watch has ended, devices wiped and dropped off with FedEx. I am now unemployed. The relief that washed over my body as I hit the “reset device” button on the last corporate device before packing it up was palpable and immediate. I cried, I cried hard because I felt the tension leave my body.

I was with the company for 6+ years and watched it eat itself from the inside, I watched it slowly kill my friends (co-workers) literally (health problems that disappeared upon leaving) and figuratively.

I did some amazing things, I worked hard on many a project, built some amazing technology to solve problems. However burnout from perpetually bad deadlines not built on reality catches up to you before you know it, and the body does keep score. My mental health suffered tremendously.

I am not surprised in the slightest that closure had me crying at 11 this morning. Hard full body sobs. The kind of crying that just lets all the emotions and feelings out.

I am excited about the new job I’ll be starting soon. It’s a vastly different challenge, a new challenge, but one that makes me feel like I can be proud again of the work I’m doing. For now, I rest.
