My goodness Rust projects just eat up disk space. I know it's fashionable to ridicule node.js / npm but I think this is on another level.

Yes they do. I think this is totally fair and valid criticism. I know why it's done but it's still ridiculous how much space is wasted. "Disk space is cheap". Yes, and any MacBook Air of 250GB is obsolete with 8-10 rust projects you work on at the same time and a few different tool chain versions.

I just ran `yarn install` on a node.js monorepo that has ~2000 deps (includes transitives) and the whole repo weighs 6GB. My toy Rust project that has 15 deps and like under 8 source files weighs 5.2GB - mostly allocated to debug builds.
