In my new blog post, I argue that LLMs exhibit a particular type of consciousness. Does the idea of crystallized consciousness make sense? Would you consider it interesting, or does it seem completely obvious? amongai.com/2026/09/06/l...

My view is that our consciousness is essentially the same kind of "crystallized consciousness". With the difference that nobody ever "really" experienced it. That part isn't needed for anything and is indistinguishable from false memories.
Open challenge: Can you tell the difference between these: a) You just genuinely experienced the smell of a rose. b) You have a false memory you just had such experience. "Just" here can be so arbitrarily short interval that you can change it to "now".
Ah interesting. I guess that goes to the deeper question of what consciousness even is in the first place.

We can get there by asking what it could plausibly be. Since you accept AI could be conscious and we know how AIs are implemented, that pretty much already implies that it's just computation.
One idea I find particularly weird is the worry that AI would somehow become dangerous if consciousness "arises" in it. Like, what exactly do you think happens inside those chips? Some ghost in the machine begins flipping bits? Don't GPUs compute and electricity flow as they used to or what?
