What makes you think your digital games are safe? Once again, Studio Canal is pulling movie licenses. Purchases to be outright erased from libraries. It's the same that happened in 2022 and during the Funimation-Crunchyroll merger. Digital is rental! (via Twitter user somatyk)

Hence why we need to strive not only for preventing companies from killing games, but also to make it illegal for companies to merely offer a "license" to digital media (games or otherwise) you buy, with all former digital purchases across all sites and platforms being retroactively included.

Like, seriously, everyone always focuses on the digital aspect of this, but do you really think it's going to *stop* at digital? Eventually companies are going to find a way to make physical games just a "license" too. We need to stop this at the source, which means we need to own our digital media.

Digital key cards to me are trying to blur those lines to the detriment of customers. It's also wretched how some set-ups are "just update it on release day to actually run" so if you have a physical copy later it's worse than just pirating it. Increasingly tiresome, I want to support creatives :/

Don't get me wrong, I 100% agree with you but enshitification is real and capitalism is fully broken and the lowly consumer has no leverage, not really. It's going to take some serious community solidarity to make these bastards listen.

Really "streaming is rental", even if they describe it as a purchase. I have plenty of digital media that no one can ever take from me. Most "physical media" people talk about is also digital.
