Klimchynskaya's framing of imperial technologies as magic and science has stuck with me. Maracot Deep reads differently after that lens, especially the sovereign individuals beat in the back half. Looking forward to where the thread runs once the bonus drops.

Back half is where it landed for me. Doyle going full genre in 1929, no Watson around, Maracot left holding the whole thing together. Your SF arc has been a useful side-quest while I'm working on something Sherlockian of my own.
