NEW ANALYSIS: Expensive gas behind "nearly 90%" of rise in UK household electricity bills since 2020 + 77% of the rise in gas bills Contrary to what you've seen in media / political narratives, net-zero is "helping to shelter Britain from the impact of expensive gas", says @acjsissons.bsky.social

In real terms, dual-fuel bills for a typical household have risen an eye-watering £548 in real terms (47%) from £1,175 in Oct 2020 to £1,723 in Oct 2026 £444 of that rise (81%) is driven by expensive gas (!)

Despite all the media coverage of wind "constraint payments" ie "paying windfarms to switch off" (and paying gas plants to switch on), this accounts for less than 4% of typical household electricity bills (Yes, balancing costs are going up, but in total they add £35 to a total bill of £858)
