I am once again begging you, if u must stream music, to consider any of the competitors from the chart below that pay artists better than Spotify. "According to a shocking new book, Spotify has been promoting so-called 'ghost artists' so it can avoid paying its piddling royalties to real artists":

Hey so if you still use Spotify: Streaming services are bad for artists but have you noticed yours is *the worst*?? Their rates are consistently under everyone AND for 85% of the music on the platform they don't pay out at all. Tidal, Deezer, Napster, Apple pay 2-3 times as much. Qobuz is like 4x.

In my experience, Tidal is a 100% replacement for Spotify functionality-wise EXCEPT the IOT support is not as good. The phone apps are at parity tho. Also: - Audio quality is better - Recs are slightly better. *Daily* song recs used to be better, now they are worse; daily album recs still good.

I'm reading some reviews in the past few months. It seems that the music quality is there, and of course they pay artists better, but apparently the user experience is horrendous. I may give it a shot, but it would be hard to move over. There are so many features I rely on with Spotify.

I do not find the user experience worse. *Except* on the Apple TV app, which is inexplicably far worse than the phone app. (The Samsung Tizen app used to be excellent, but they discontinued it.)

Yes, but there's not a named feature for it. It is simply the case if you play any single track by itself, after the track ends, it launches into a song radio. IME not *every* song has a song radio— very rarely, I've seen it not. I guess on songs too obscure to have data. But EVERY album has one.

I never tried out Tidal but if i can find thousands and thousands of the same music i listen to Spotify i really want to switch there. Spotify is sinking into money hell and they're secretly destroying it with AI artists and HECK, they even fucking allowed a fake Yoko Shimomura album in. Goddamnit.

Well, the ones in Benn Jordan's graph are Qobuz, Deezer, and Apple Music. I hear some people speak well of Napster, which Jordan didn't evaluate, but pays highly. Amazon and YouTube Music also have streaming services, but how much they pay varies depending on which source you ask.

I pat the most for Google with no ads but damn. That's awful. Many of the music I listen to is Japanese underground scene stuff, so they're only just now getting on Spotify. I'll keep buying mp3s for now I guess.

That might be the rate for songs embedded in YouTube videos rather than the amount from paying YouTube Music subscribers listening to music. I'm not clear on that. If u research you'll find WILDLY varying claims about what YouTube pays.

I know from using it Deezer has a much better recommendation algorithm. I've built much better playlists using it and I know a lot of DJs will use Deezer for the work part of their job then use Spotify when it comes to sharing their stuff or playing it live.

I have got inconsistent answers about YouTube. It appears YouTube and YouTube Music pay different rates, and I don't know what to make of that.

I want to use altenatives but I just can’t afford that atm :( I’m only able to use Spotify premium because my parents are already paying for the family subscription thing. When I get a job and a stable source or income besides infrequent art commissions I’ll definitely try switching to tidal. :(

Well like even digital stuff it's like. OK now you have a collection. Where do you keep it. If you have a NAS where does it live. If you live with people who "owns" it.
