Update: In the time since my last post on this petition, Ireland's gone from under 50% of needed signatures to well above 100%! España también está muy cerca ahora. The four closest countries are now: Spain at 70%, Belgium-Netherlands-Slovenia near 50%, Sweden-Denmark-Germany all hover around 35%.

👋EU people: There's a citizen petition calling on the EU to ban "conversion therapy" to "cure" LGBTQ+ folks, a process people who've experienced it describe as "torture". It needs about 5x its current votes to be considered but is especially in need of voters from: Spain, Ireland, Slovenia, Belgium

Last month the UK proclaimed the legal nonexistence of trans people in a court decision; last night Texas in the US did so by passing a law in its house of representatives. If the EU wants to send a signal it won't participate in the war on trans life, this initiative is a pretty clear way to do so.

EU folks: There is one week left to sign the EU citizen's initiative against "conversion therapy" of LGBTQ folks. I don't think it can hit the total threshold in that time but Spain just hit the country threshold, and Belgium and the Netherlands could still make it: eci.ec.europa.eu/043/public/#...

It's 7 AM CEST. The EU citizen initiative to ban anti-LGBT "conversion therapy" is *so close*—I think the votes *tripled* in a week?—but also there are only 18 hours left. Uh, or 32, depending on what "ends May 17" means. Sorry, I'm sleepy and on the wrong continent eci.ec.europa.eu/043/public/#...

Um um wow. WOW? In JUST the time I was asleep the EU "Citizens Initiative" to ban anti-LGBT "conversion therapy" got one-quarter of its entire vote goal, meaning with 9 countries & just over a million votes it "passes" and is sent to the EU parliament. Amazing y'all eci.ec.europa.eu/043/public/#...

EU nationals, LAST CALL: The citizens' initiative asking the EU to ban anti-LGBTQ "conversion therapy" ( eci.ec.europa.eu/043/public/#... ) HAS hit its target but with 7 HOURS LEFT there's still reason to vote— - Portugal & Austria are close! - Denmark & Croatia are ULTRA CLOSE, < 1000 votes each

A) my understanding is that different EU members endorse based on the signatures from their own citizens, so there's still a reason to sign depending on your country. B) also some votes get thrown out for being invalid, so (if you're an EU resident) there's still reason to sign anyway <3

*thinks* hm. I wonder if you could contact the initiative runners. Because that is an actual group, and I've never been clear if there is a separate non online petition, which might have qualification requirements more apt to you.

I think it just comes down to "I have a certification attesting to my citizenship but I don't have any of the actual bureaucratic identifiers that are used yet" sort of like if I only had a document attesting to my U.S. citizenship but hadn't gotten a Social Security number yet

this might be enough for an in-person signature though. since you'll probably have the numbers and passport by the time the signature validation phase occurs
