Honestly foot pedals sound like an absolut pro option. Are you talking Midi based, racing simulator or something else entirely?

The one I have is literally just a pair of digital footswitches that are bound to numpas 1 and 3 that I use for things like drifting in ex xdriver.

So they just emulate regular keyboard keys? That's perfect (less work to implement). You can theoretically even mix keyboard with gamepad inputs which this setup would make sense for. I just gotta make sure any button prompts on screen don't keep switching between the two methods.
