Absolutely astonishing story from Reuters, saying that Anthropic’s valuation is based on theoretical revenues of $180-200bn in 2028, and that its “current EBITDA does not fully capture the economics investors expect the company to achieve at scale.” Misleading! www.reuters.com/business/ant...

If you ever want to see how consent gets manufactured this is how it happens. Journalism should not be printing things that operate as marketing. This only serves to inflate the bubble and con retail investors. Shameful.

Also: man Anthropic’s financials must look and smell like the inside of a Tauntaun if they’re pushing this hard to get reporters to tell readers to ignore their lying eyes

There was a post on LinkedIn the other day that was like "why is Gonzo (or whatever their CEO's name is) complaining that he thinks people are only applying to Anthropic for the money when they pay 40% better than anybody else"

I'm a big believer in not shaming the institution like this, Ed. We're long past when individual reporters can and should be called out on this bullshit. And their editors, if possible. And in this case, it's too delicious to resist: the reporter's name is "Echo Wang." You can't make this shit up.

take a dip into the reporting on the bears stadium relocation. more than half read as press releases, the other blandly recite interested parties. virtually none examine the supposed economic benefits of massive tax breaks for sports venues

I believe you. and it’s nothing you haven’t seen before. might be a good microcosm for after the collapse tho. rub some dirt in some prestige journalism faces

honestly, think the only thing that differs is scale. and the story of this new century is the varied and calculated ways corporate interest saps the lifeblood from the ppl that live places
