In some countries, you can't even access a Torrent site without a VPN. Like the UK. Opera browser has a free built in web VPN. Fuck you, UK government!

I have to connect to an exit node in either Mexico or Albania to visit some sites haha 😆 I hoover up info-hashes, connect more locally (for speed) then dump them all in to my manager app Pain in the arse, and only going to get more tricky Rolling our own VPS might be the only way to tunnel out

I'm sure you know this anyway, so for anyone else reading in: Free VPNs are dangerous You're the product.. they will 100% log everything and 100% will hand it over to the authorities if asked

Yeah Opera just does web traffic, so if you're accessing Torrent web sites, you're not doing anything wrong. If you click on a Magnet link, then you open your Torrent client, and you're open. I'm a hit and run kind of Torrenter. I don't stick around for long. Never had a warning from my ISP so far.

"Used in combination with other technologies" - A VPN is part of a toolkit. It isn't a one stop solution A VPN with a privacy focused browser, and good online hygiene is usually more than enough privacy for most users For everyone else there is Tor

Yes, but you'd do better to look it up in a reference book than to ask people on Bluesky (even computer science professionals like me) for definitions. The format is limiting.

Ok anonymity relative to *what* What if I told you, there were ways that, at a VPN provider, with like a single motivated person, and lets say the VPN provider really was "trustworthy" - what if I was to say, (governments aside) to certain parties - there 0 anonymity in a VPN?

Westworld had it down way back in season 1 : He markets WestWorld on total discretion and then he sells the data of how people really act when they think no one is watching.
