🚨 | THIRTEEN Councillors (8 Green & 5 Reform) who were elected in the May 2026 Local Elections have already triggered by-elections.

I think every year there’s *someone* who ends up winning while ineligible (there are a lot of people being elected, so the odds of a cockup somewhere are fairly high) This year does seem like a particularly high number though

Disregard the two who must resign because they've been elected as mayors - that's reasonable. That's still 6 Greens and 5 Reform. I expect no better from Reform - but from Greens, who should know better, this is really disappointing.

🌍 Green Regent's Park (Camden) - Ineligible North Acton (Ealing) - Resigned Dalston (Hackney) - Elected Mayor Hackney C. (Hackney) - Resigned Northumberland Park (Haringey) - Dsq. Clapham Park (Lambeth) - Resigned Streatham St Leonard's (Lambeth) - Resigned Crofton Park (Lewisham) - Elected Mayor

The elected mayor's are probably fair enough but certainly the ineligible and resigned should pay the cost of the new election. I say that as a thirty year Green Party member. While I understand how it happens it has consequences

➡️ Reform Rayleigh West (Essex) - Resigned High Fell (Gateshead) - Resigned Sweyne Park & Grange (Rochford) - Resigned Haydock (St Helens) - Resigned Hylton Castle (Sunderland) - Resigned

Usually if you want to win in America you talk to local party leaders and community movers and shakers BEFORE you file paperwork to run. Do things work that way in the UK or are Reform and Green just not worried about candidates other than the leader ?

Same in the UK - anybody considering standing for election should read and understand the council constitution and standing orders, and attend meetings for at least a few months before putting themselves forward. The council will have an electoral services team to answer any questions too.

Sorry Green Party but this is pisspoor. You can do better. To outperform fucking RefUK when it comes to crap selection takes some doing. Proportionate to councillors elected it gets worse still. And as the OP notes in response to a direct question, the answer for everyone else is zero.

I agree. I do think the party needs a bit of slack due to rapid expansion (and without the massive funds flowing into RefUK) but they need to get on to this fast. You can't claim to be the leading left-of-centre party and then be a clown show.
