Perfectly possible (likely even) that Labour are back in the lead in Scotland by the time of the next election . Striking that only 3 in 10 now support the separatists who want break up our United Kingdom 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧

The United Kingdom is doomed. Sooner or later Irish unification will occur & that’s the end of the UK. Will anyone else want to keep the leftovers?

Couldn’t disagree more . There is no way in the current global economic situation that an independent Scotland could borrow the money necessary to repay its portion of UK national debt and then finance its ongoing expenditure . It would be a basket case

NI is in a very different situation because it would be part of Ireland and the EU . Scotland would not qualify for EU membership because of its economic situation .

That was not the point of your post. You said support for independence was the minority it is not. One could argue indefinitely about what its share of the national debt might be. But basket case not. It’s a wealthy country with lots of resources.

Most likely later, not saying it’ll never happen, but polling for a United ireland still has no ahead by 14% (we’ve only had one poll this year, though the phrasing was if there was a referendum “tomorrow” and people might default to a safe option in a short timeframe)

And that’s before you get into all the tricky realities of changing the current constitutional settlement (and pro separation isn’t an irreversible trajectory. Quebecs independence ref failed by a *tiny* percentage in 1995 (only a 1.16 pp gap), and now 2/3rds want to stay in Canada

Also, 30% isn’t directly linked to support for independence. Many Labour voters are pro-independence too. The last independence poll was 52% in favour.
