Reading the @cucd.bsky.social statistics report and I wish I had something insightful to say, but I am just in shock. Of course I know staff numbers are down, especially fixed-term staff, because I am one of those numbers, but it's actually a gut-punch to see the numbers there in black and white.

It’s shocking and saddening, I know, especially when the general message we’re seeing is that students are wanting to take Classical subjects at university.

Exactly. And the whole story that these numbers tell - of junior academics who can't get a foot in the door, to cancelled research leave, to general overwork. It's really shocking.
