the difference between fine art and illustration is nothing more than the economic class of the artist making it and that of their patrons.

it really isn't like that in most cases. full transparency I *do* come from wealth, but all of my ex classmates that went on to do fine arts were and are broke. I think it's the illusion of every 'artist does a shockingly boring and easy art to sell to collectors' news we get.

I think it's the difference between making fine art and being successful in fine art. Like I graduated art school with a ton of loan debt and have never been able to afford a studio (even shared), but all of my classmates who managed to break into fine art didn't have to worry about loans--

--and had help covering studio rent while not being forced to work a full time job like most people. Like yeah you can be broke and find ways to make fine art, but without connections or "financial freedom" it's just not likely going to happen for you.
