Related: When I was a judge for the LA Times book prize, they were fine with anything that was published even in the indie space, but not self published books, even if they had an isbn. Essentially disqualifying some of the best work coming out despite being no different than small press stuff.

There are a handful of bigger book outlets that won't review our books bc we do not work with large traditional book distributors. Its complicated but if you've read any of our books recently, please leave a review on goodreads it's basically like steam reviews but for our books, ok tysm!!!
