Here's the strange thing, and by all means call me a sucker, but every time Elizabeth appeared on-screen in the film's "third act" I was almost relieved; her charisma and warmth did something to me on a subconscious level. And so my sympathy went more toward Nathan's vulnerability.

I had the opportunity (and impulse) to see it *again* only hours after the first time. I was compelled to watch the first half with more scrutiny(?) but then only found myself even more entranced by Holmes, more aware of Nathan's compromised position

1st watch: Psyduck-levels of strung-along confusion, great movie etc 2nd watch: complete tunnel-vision about Holmes' "authenticity," and noticing how sobered the theater became by the time it ended. Her inability to see Billy as harmful feels more tragic than it does deserving

Meaning that I'm not sure what to believe about Holmes, which some could say was her motive to make the film in the first place. I do believe, however, that Nathan succeeded in documenting the humanity of someone who is likely mentally ill but not necessarily evil in her intentions
