As Alberta votes on separation, remember "Western Alienation" grew after '80 when Liberals won a majority without seats west of MB & imposed the NEP. Proportional representation would end distorted results painting entire provinces as one-party monoliths shut out of power.

Within which system? Ranked choice/ballot is just a mechanism used by majoritarian and proportional systems. IRV/AV (Trudeau’s choice) is majoritarian, like FPTP. It will not resolve the tensions we are experiencing. STV, however, is proportional. RUP employs STV within it as well.

Good point. When I say "ranked choice" I mean STV. I realize it's considered a proportional system, but to me, proportional is more like what they use in Germany, where party-list candidates are given seats such that their party's seat count jibes with their vote count.

Germany uses MMP, as does New Zealand. I cannot recall exactly in which ways they employ the system differs, but even MMP can be structured to fit different styles of government.
