The reason I've gone more left in recent years is that I previously accepted that we simply couldn't afford decent cheap housing, heavily subsidised transport, a universal basic income, etc. Then in 20 years in politics I saw what we actually could afford. And it's a lot. It's just never for you.

A lot of the assumptions that are drummed into us in our youth turn out to be fables told by the wealthy to keep themselves in that position and to stop us actively seeking something better
