Well, of course After the billionaires throw out all those books, if you want to read one, you'll have to pay them for the privilege That's their business plan Plagiarize all of the world's intellectual property, and then sell it to people

These articles are misleading. It's one copy of each title. And they literally are not allowed to sell or give away the copy lest they have to stop using their digital archive copy.

Yes, one copy. One copy of each title still in copyright. Aka, could be put back in print and money be made off it by the owners. They aren't allowed to resell or allow to be transferred the original copy - that's how it'll be respected. That's the court determination they're following.

Heard about this recently. And this is one of the reasons why AI should be reduced in usage at the least. Because AI has been implemented so deeply that companies or any other places need AI to progress easier. (e.g. Software Developing Companies in need of AI to make their workflow easier/faster).

As it beautifully says in the novel: "Goebbels, if he were still alive, would no longer find a place on the podium of those in power, as this technique has already been further developed too much. "

The dumped in the trash part is due to a judicial order that makes it okay to scan the book as long as you destroy it later. Also, by rare, these are mostly long tail books, the 13th edition of Lonely Planet Rome, and iPhone 4 for Seniors, stuff like that.

These LLM companies keep running out of material to train on. They'll use anything copyrighted or not. No matter how few copies are left to go around between them to ripscan. Fortunately at least a few antiquarians caught on and vetted who's buying so physical copies of a local niche aren't shred.

This is just fear mongering. If it's out of copyright, they don't need to ripscan them. There'd already copies, and if there isn't, they can make as many as they want. The digital copies they make for training can be trained on infinitely. That's the point of scanning them: So they only need one.

There's plenty of free digital books online that they can use. I haven't read the article but I'm assuming the title is used for clicks and inside the article it's completely different.
