Colorado parolees shouldn’t have to choose between their beliefs and staying out of prison. After years of advocacy by atheists and allies, the state has agreed to offer secular recovery options. Here’s how organizers made it happen. www.friendlyatheist.com/p/colorado-p...

Religion has been called “the opiate of the masses“ for a reason. Drugs or faith, either way someone else is taking your money and making you dependent on them.

I do wonder what a head-to-head comparison of the success rates of religiously based and secular treatment approaches would show? Just a curious thought. I've never looked into the data or whether it's been studied. AA used to keep it's data away from the public which makes me curious.

I'm mostly curious if secular treatment is as effective on the religous as religous-based treatment. It's entirely possible that their religion is fully entwined in their addiction. I'm not suggesting they give up their religion, just remove it from their treatment process - one less thing.

Did a search via OpenEvidence. Bottom line: secular programs are equivalent in efficacy. "No RCT has demonstrated any one mutual-help modality to be consistently superior — the recommended approach is matching to patient preference and availability." -NEJM Looks like choice should be offered 👍

Do they ever explain why their higher power doesn't just fix people? You'd think an all-powerful being wouldn't need steps to cure people.
