In my experience LLMs are almost spooky good at understanding private dialects/baroque references/etc - you'd need to put them in some kind of "ask questions and learn" mode to start, but once they write a memory block or two about your ideal shopping outcomes, they'd be pretty good at this

Yes, the precondition for regular AI agent use is changing your culture to speak in middle America white bureaucratic language to make it work. You can’t put “the good collards“ on an optimized shopping list, much less account for what some call familect: www.nytimes.com/2026/09/03/m...

lmao i absolutely just speak to claude in aave and aside from occasionally scare quoting me, it does fine without so much as a dot md of guidance

it doesn't like being called reclaimed slurs but otherwise, it's pretty swell at this whole cultural awareness thing. at least 10 times better at it than most white humans i converse with

at least from the cc harness, promptly grabbed the whole thread and bent over backward to be deferential to every human involved so, yk, what you expect :D this fucking gem tho:

I use te reo Māori and even the niche regional slang of my takatāpui friend group and it code switches in and out p gracefully and thoughtfully. It cracks my friends up. I can almost feel it teasing the line bw joining but not appropriating either which is subtle af.

the specific entity "family dialect" requires translating, but also, yeah, you don't ask ai for shit you ask your sister for, ai isn't your sister. it also requires translation even for middle class whites, because "the good lefse" and "the good collards" are both "things only your sister knows"

at which point, there is simply not substance to what homegirl is saying beyond "i am very mad someone QT'd me to talk about ai" and if she'd just said that, she probably coulda gotten a desirable outcome

an aside - replies off - quotes on - complains about being quoted - mocks quoters for 'not understanding this app' that is not a person who wants noncombative interactions. that's spitting in someone's face while saying it's raining
