for a lot of pmc shit you can even skip college if you decide "busting into the pmc without going to college" is a thing you're gonna do it's probably more likely than whatever else you're betting on! (tbc, as a college skipper - do college it's easier)

Btw becoming professional-managerial class is not in fact something you’re inherently born into You can do it. You just have to go to college. That’s how you do it, your parents’ background can make that easier but if you’re a US citizen without a specific kind of conviction you can get loans

my wife is a college dropout software eng and has a great big tech salary but unfortunately this particular big tech wont promote past senior software engineer for the degreeless. she oughta be a principal at this point. still a good deal for her long run given her starting conditions but, annoying

Sometimes you still hit credentialism. I personally ran into the issue that I wasn’t considered credible in a topic because my degree wasn’t sufficiently elite (as in a PhD); the guy couldn’t evaluate the validity of my explanation and wanted some other evidence I knew what I was talking about

To be fair, beginning with the phrase “Nobody knows anything” might have been starting off on the wrong foot albeit the topic had to do with Hollywood and economics, so I guess I knew I was going to be making some people angry

if its worth it and qualifies within their professional context, an online degree is affordable and achievable fairly quickly, and many providers grant credit for professional experience this may be known to you, but snhu, wgu, asu, umgc, purdue, etc, are happy to turn $ and time into degree

but if you're like, psychologically incapable of college for whatever reason, that's not actually a dealbreaker deciding you cannot, is, unfortunately, a dealbreaker

actually i know it was playful internet voice but i want to explicitly go back on this; it is Good that 'deciding the system would never let you in' is incompatible with 'the system letting you in'. you gotta evince some kinda confidence that we're in this together to get ppl to take a chance on you

many things people complain about in the Job Market are actually structural features of getting other people to trust you yes you actually do have to demonstrate you can get along with people you don't know well yes you actually do have to demonstrate competence, because they can't read your mind
