It’s totally alien to me but I just stumbled my way through using the shapely Python library to resolve some serious geometry bugs produced when decomposing curves in font glyphs into something PicoVector compatible…

Very much one of those “it works but I have very little idea why” moments in places. At least I knew what I was doing when merging partially overlapping closed paths. Less so when extracting the resulting mess into sensible individual paths. “Breaking” apart the path as it were.

But why? I used the image preview in my icon converter tool to get a better idea... glyphs were being decomposed into a mess of overlapping shapes. Some artefact of variable font support, perhaps?

PicoVector and, by extension, Alright Fonts, treats overlapping shapes like holes. This is by design, so you can create letters or complex designs with holes without having to use the painters algorithm. You want to *see through* the shapes to whatever the background happens to be.
