It's been brought to my attention that @bsky.smitizen.com used one of my photos in their article not only without credit, but also cropping the very unobtrusive/unassuming/discreet watermark I usually place on my photos...

Now, my views on Intellectual Property are pretty open: I'm anti-DRM, information wants to be free, etc. etc. But, the least you could do is to provide credit/attribution and keep the original intact.

Hell, the reason I enjoy taking and editing photos/video is not because I "content creator" (ew), but because I enjoy what I do and love to inspire others, much like how I've been (and continue to be) inspired by others.

As someone who has worked as a photographer, this needs to be compensated or at least an agreement needs to be reached. Anything else is theft. They're a business, and unless they're planning to share their gear for free, they shouldn't expect to use other people's work for free.

Like how you handle this is totally your prerogative obviously, it's just incredibly telling that they couldn't even be bothered to ask for permission.

It's too vicious. Of course it's unacceptable. The person who is the first sender and producer should be given the utmost respect. A person who cannot even do such a thing is worthless as a human being, no matter how good his or her education is or what position he or she holds!!
