More context on this #Artemis II image: * This is the night side, lit by moonlight. You can see city lights in Spain & Portugal, & a sliver of day at lower right * The Sun is entirely behind Earth, which makes it a kind of solar eclipse, but w/ Earth doing the eclipsing instead of the Moon: ☀️🌍🚀🌕

Here’s the official image release from NASA: www.nasa.gov/image-articl...

More to see in that image: * Aurora Australis (bright green, upper right) & Aurora Borealis (plane green, lower left) visible as faint streaks * The bright dot in the lower right is Venus * The white haze in the lower right is zodiacal light: dust in the plane of the Solar System lit by sunlight

what's going on here? i...never saw this before?

I think it’s just image noise

oh ok. thanks!

wait i think i didn't really pose this well. not the specks but the structured outer ring. i think what i'm seeing for the first time is the "limb" according to my quick search? like my conception of where i would see something...didn't go that far out. is that it?

Oh you mean the atmosphere?
