I got a Quest Pro open box on Ebay, after the Steam Frame was fully revealed and I was disappointed by the price. This thread is a kinda review of the headset with comparisons to the Oculus Quest and Meta Quest 3, both headsets i've used extensively, with some time in the Oculus Quest 2.

First and foremost, I paid just under $600 for the Quest Pro, which while I am aware its more than a 3 which has better specs, you'll see why I made this particular choice as I explain further.

My main interest in the Steam Frame was how it was sold as the user's computer and you could technically install other OSes on it. Not that you really COULD just yet, but still. I still do have interest in such a device, but the price didn't justify what I actually do with VR headsets...

I actually primarily stream from my PC to the headset to play VR, both wired and wirelessly, though I prioritize wireless. The Steam Frame offered a dongle that highly intrigued me as it offers likely the best wireless communications for VR. A lot of people complain about-

wireless VR on their WIFI being slow. Heres a cool tip. If you have two WIFI adapters in your PC or are connected via ethernet and have Wifi you aren't using. Make a mobile hotspot on your system. It creates a direct connection between your system and the headset and it heavily improved wireless.

Also, use Virtual Desktop for wireless VR. The price is well worth it. ALVR is alright but it has worse performance and connection issues. Good for wired, though.

Its important to note I definitely don't use the Quest series of headsets to run any of my games on the headset itself. I think a lot of people would agree the Quest 3 gets too hot when running, the fans pick up and the headset is warm to wear. Its also VERY uncomfy.

The Quest 1 doesn't have either issues. Its actually so low power that it charges just from being plugged into the PC, so heat isn't an issue. Its also a lot better comfort-wise. I don't need to buy a new facial interface and head strap.

The Quest 1 controllers are also more comfy to me than the Quest 3, and easier to put down with the rings. The Quest 3 does fit a little better in the hands. The Quest 2 is kind of closer to the 3 in comfort generally speaking.

The Quest Pro has a facial interface that is EXTREMELY comfy and is very easy to put on, even with glasses. I love the amount of adjustment available with MOST of it, but its the best among all the headsets I've used.

I haven't used it much... it DOES have fans but in my use (exclusively streaming) it never kicked up and the headset never felt overly warm to the touch and the temperature doesn't effect me while I wear it which is such a relief having used the Quest 3 so much.

The speakers are REALLY good. Like the best I've ever heard in general. Shockingly clear, somewhat similar to how the Quest 3 is pretty great. The Quest 1 speakers worked.

The Headstrap is fairly well designed and similarly very comfortable and the pressure is very evenly spread in the best way it could be. Its the most comfortable headset I've ever worn. The Controllers though, share more with the Quest 3 in shape and comfort and are heavy, but they do track since-

they have their own cameras. They can take a second to turn on but it works excellently, the best VR controllers with rechargable batteries. Thank fucking god. Finally. Holy shit, jesus christ. They did it. Best controllers I've used for the tracking and battery.

The screen is pretty comparable to the Quest 3, I wouldn't be able to tell all that much of a difference. With the same the lens, its not missing out on much. The big thing is light getting in. With the main Quest line, its just the nose where light comes in. The Pro is designed instead to-

be easier to put on and off or have above your head from moment to moment so the bottom is much more open. It isn't much of an immersion killer especially once you start focusing on the game itself, similar to the rest of the Quest series.

Since I do streaming, I use the eye / face tracking for foveated streaming to improve performance and it does wonders. Nice feature.

All in all, I think I'm very happy with this purchase over the Steam Frame when both would ultimately serve the same purpose for me. The Pro also has passthrough which is VERY helpful. Why didn't valve even try.

oh, pass through, uhm. The Quest 1 and 2 suck. 3 is pretty good. The Pro is. Workable. It has color, but the way the color works is that it seems like it projects colors onto the screen based on color cameras but the actual feed comes from IR cameras, like its so weird. I couldnt show you. i think
