Perhaps narrow tribalism made some sense in some past era, but it makes no sense at all in this era of climate collapse and the threat of nuclear war. We're now in this together, like it or not. Have the Republicans et al just not figured that out yet?

I couldn't understand the article; maybe I'll try it again later. Certainly some people DO hate empathy -- Republicans, Zionists, Nazis in WW2 movies, many US soldiers in any war to dominate brown people.

One thing about a rightwing rejection of empathy is that these are the people who have been telling us since Reagan and earlier that we don't need government programs because churches and communities should engage in direct charity. So how does that work if we are also conditioned to be selfish?

Tangential but an appalling lack of empathy mixed with elitism. Palantir executive compares government to a slab of beef. It is now "wagyu" after the projects that help people other than billionaires have been eliminated. What kind of psychopath compares the public trust to a slaughter animal?
