As noted further down in the story, "Air Force One" is actually a callsign, not a specific plane. Any plane the president is on is AF1. I get a president having to fly incognito, like when Biden went to Ukraine. But to call something AF1 that *wasn't* AF1 -- AND FOR THAT TO LEAK -- seems bad?

Breaking news: An Iranian assassination threat against President Trump prompted an operation in which he flew secretly from Turkey on an alternate military aircraft while the White House said he was aboard Air Force One, The Post has learned.

Doing the whole flight with no signal and/or no callsign was an option! That's what they did at earlier stages of the flight. Changing it to AF1 is using the crew, staff members and journalists as bait for the aggressor allegedly making the serious threat.

I want to know if the pilot in command knew Trump had left the plane, and I want to know why that pilot added the AF1 callsign midflight. Was s/he instructed to do so, and if so, who instructed him/her?

I’m also curious about what verbal callsigns they used, but I have no idea if European air traffic transmissions are publicly available or archived. Anyone? bsky.app/profile/gree...

are the ADS-B callsigns able to be entered in ways that do not involve the pilot/dispatcher/ATC loop? (I ask because you can't very well talk to ATC as "Callsign Unknown" ) I wonder if SAM2900 or another was used throughout the flight on the radio.

Bottom line: Americans unwittingly became decoys because President Trump wanted to use his new toy in a way it wasn’t meant to be used. Taking the Qatari plane, which hasn’t been equipped for self-defense, to a country that borders Iran was careless and dangerous both to himself and others.
