This is at least the fourth person with diabetes to die in ICE custody just this year. Many more have been hospitalized and/or reported starving themselves so they wouldn’t die after being denied care. Is anyone aware of any litigation specific to immigrants with diabetes?

A 56-year-old Mexican man held at a federal immigration facility in Laredo was found dead in his cell Saturday morning. His family says the center would not give him medicine for diabetes, high blood pressure and a heart condition. He is the 7th person to die in ICE custody in Texas this year.

a young blonde woman (Hanne?) married to an American citizen going through the green card process was detained by ICE and as a congenital ( severe ) diabetic Type 1 (where if it's not tended to one lapses into diabetic coma and dies), . . . had been denied care as she reported to the UK's Guardian

Scandinavian , . . . now remembering 🤔 as Norwegian like the famed footballer ⚽ from Manchester City ( at least until Man City , . . . oh , never mind ) There's a male tennis player who won the US Open🎾 that can also point to what happens when diabetes isn't treated --

Yup I posted about her story at the time bsky.app/profile/gill...

This story is insane. Married an American, arrested at her greencard interview, flown out of state, nearly killed multiple times when her diabetes was ignored and then mistreated. When she finally got out? Found out her credit card had been used illegally. www.daylightsandiego.org/san-diego-wo...

We had a college professor released to our shelter. His insulin pump was taken away. The detention center gave him only enough insulin to keep his blood sugar below 500. He told medical he could go into a coma; their response "when you do we will call an ambulance". He didn't eat for 3 wks.

I’m a Type 2 diabetic who is able to manage without having to take insulin, so far, and it’s this kind of insanity that drives me to keep it that way for as long as I possibly can.

This is industrialized torture. bsky.app/profile/anna...
