I remember years ago Mike from Penny Arcade described a house rule where if someone was off by 1 he could be persuaded to allow the success if they described something cool enough. I like the "gimme a little more and let's see what happens" idea with a roll that's just 1 shy of success.

A fae will twist words and curl that monkeys paw around your wording. Aabria tells you what you’ll get….and what it will cost you, and still makes it feel like an amazing deal to take. She’s on a whole other level.
