Something I've been working lately is scaling back a lot of actions the player can do in various situations. In this case, we see the player is able to rotate objects that are being carried (if the object allows) both when idling and while thrown. I'm removing the former soon. #gamedev #godot

The reason is because while being able to do this without first starting the throw action (or any kind of object placement) seems convenient, in reality it just creates confusion. You only really want this when intending to place an object. I've been referring to it as "Context Confusion".

I had another action with a similar issue. Build Mode used to have two ways it could be used. The first is being inside your shop area gave access to build with the inventory stored in your area. The second was while holding a container you could use it with only the items in that container.

On the surface that seems useful. However, I notice it only caused play testers to be confused about when each was or was not allowed. So instead it remains as only within a shop area (which makes sense really, that's when you'd really use it anyway).

Sometimes less is more and the goblin in me finds that notion disgusting and terrifying! But the goblin will make due with being able to eat random leaves off the floor.
