Starting today I will start spelling "Brasil" with an S even when writing in English.

My personal change from Brazil to Brasil is not to piss off anyone, but to show that I'm proud of my country, who was able to challenge the US neocolonialism. There are many great people in the US, and I'm not going to enforce this spelling, but it's about time we stood up on our own legs

I'm glad to hear it I would love to hear the down fall of any kind of colonialism. Hate that my place of birth been shit to y'all but it's not treating me much better so I feel ya embrace what makes y'all y'all

Of course this is just a personal thing, but if you respect Brasil and what this country is able to achieve even against insurmountable odds -- if our fights are inspiring to you in some way, then I wholeheartedly suggest doing it!

There was a while not too long ago (a few decades at most) where Spain INSISTED in spelling it as "Méjico", since x doesn't sound like j under standard Spanish phonetics. But the x comes from the original Aztec/Nahuatl etymology, and Spain has since fucked off and accepted our spelling.
