I have an older Thinkpad, which I love, and find this article interesting. I'd be interested in trying to switch to Linux but have questions. Can anyone help me with this?

Did this with a MacBook Air (7/8 yrs old - Intel i5 processor with 4Gb ram) - now using Mint 22 & runs like a dream. Perfectly usable laptop again (also reformatted a SurfacePro 4 with similar results). Neither run that much slower than my current XPS with latest Intel i7 ultra processor & 32Gb ram!

I also have an X1 Carbon, great little laptops, have had mine about 4 years now. One reason I chose that model is because it is completely compatible with Linux. I loaded Debian/Cinnamon on mine. Everything works flawlessly, even the lighted keyboard.

BTW, if you haven't already looked into it, if you want an excellent lightweight document editor I run AbiWord on the X1. LibreOffice is pretty good in terms of memory management but AbiWord is in a class of its own.

Oh my god, the X1 Carbon is indeed 9 years old I remember wanting this one, but its was quite pricey (And I ended up getting a education discount on a Dell XPS 13 which still works, changed the battery like last year, and it was like brand new. Still on Win10, will have to migrate to Linux Mint)
