Gavin Newsom is against Trump because Trump challenges Gavin Newsom's power. Newsom is entirely for an oligarchy. And willing to sacrifice any one not "elite" to get it. Not a man for the people. He would not make even a decent president. An enemy of your enemy doesn't make presidential material.

CA’s proposition system sometimes platforms bad policy disguised as populism, and this wealth tax may be one of those examples and; do it anyway fuck the billionaires, I dare you to move to Florida you rich bastards.
