A thing that is funny about the moral grandstanding by Repubs re: Christopher Columbus is that nobody knew or cared about him 100 years ago. His "holiday" is barely 50 years old and was pushed through by Italian-American lobby groups in response to...anti-immigrant prejudice.

Until the mid 20th century, Italians were considered ignorant, lazy, congenitally criminal and incapable of assimilating into American culture. Stop me if this sounds familiar

They and the Irish were also considered highly suspect due to their Catholicism. Their loyalty, it was thought, would always be to the Pope, not to the United States. It almost cost JFK his presidential bid. Which brings us to another great irony--

--the fact that these yahoos derive their whole belief system and morality from the King James Bible, a text commissioned and disseminated by the most flagrantly bisexual monarch in English history, a staunch globalist who believed women should be allowed to perform baptisms

In conclusion, I wish these people would just look in the mirror. They too contain multitudes, they simply don't know it

A framing device I have found helpful is a post on the Bad Site which said essentially "Stop trying to catch conservatives in their hypocrisy. They are not bound by fae rules and need not acknowledge your correctness or admit defeat to your logic. They only care about scoring points right now."
