#AskHytale Why does light radiate in a diamond shape instead of a sphere?

Assuming this is what you’re referring to, it is actually (roughly) resembling how the light intensity would look/be distributed irl. I think it throws a lot of people off because we don’t encounter many emissive cubes in our daily lives :P

it looks like how the light distribution would look if there was a 90 degree angle directional flashlight attached to each face of the cube i guess and im guessing this is how they currently have non cube shaped blocks (like torches) working too so ye i just think a light sphere would look better

Especially since it's supposed to be a story told through a blocky medium instead of being canonically blocky. I think making emitting blocks act as if they were spheres instead of blocks would look better.

I believe its because Hytale uses a simmilar lighting system to minecrafts "Light levels", where the brightness of a light source decays one block at a time. There, light decays "faster"on diagonals, since it has so step along the block squares, where as the cardinal directions are a straight line.
