there’s a discourse going around today about why western devs can’t make a game as good as chrono trigger and i think it’s worth saying that a lot of japanese devs can’t make a game as good as chrono trigger either

i don’t think there’s any essential reason why western devs can’t write good jrpg inspired stories, if that premise is even true. i think good writing is hard, and making a game is harder in completely different ways

i think there’s also the boring answer is that “jrpg alike” just isn’t a popular genre in the west, so there aren’t very many of them made.
