and putting it before THAT ONE too. like, it straight up isnt done. The game just eventually stops and if you want to know how it ends you have to go read the book??? also the beginning relies on you watching the movie that only came as a pack-in with early copies?????? FFXV deeply fascinates me

fun fact none of this is even remotely true and the fact that people think the opposite is due to square enix's hilarious mismanagement. definitely something i want to write about after i do a 1.0 replay

idk i disagree, clearly a ton of the intended story is lost or left out of the base game. even taking owning all of the dlc into consideration, they just never made the last 3 dlcs, which pretty nicely wrap up the story. i say this as someone who likes ffxv, its a bit of a mess

oh i mean specifically that the game being 'unfinished' (that is to say, development was rushed and lots was cut) and the game being 'incomplete' (that is to say, supported by a ton of spin off material and dlc) are entirely separate and disconnected things

so like, the game feels spotty and has a bunch of holes due to things being cut. thats true. but the things that fill those holes are developed by entirely new teams. they are just not finishing ffxv. they are retconning it and making it something completely new. the movie sucks. dotf is a war crime

oh yeah okay that makes much more sense. and yeah that movie was pretty forgettable (still the only thing that explains what the ring is iirc) i kinda enjoyed dotf if only because of how crazy it was that it even exists and its relationship to ffxv as a whole.

yeah its just a completely new alt-history thing that retcons basically all the major characters and lore in huge ways. square should really have moved on from FFXV without dumping years into dlcs and immediately started working on a sequel that built on what worked while the mood was still positive

It's honestly bizarre that Square's mismanagement created the impression that a game which saw pretty solid responses on release and ended up selling 10 million copies was a disaster that needed to be recovered from, even within Square.

people liked the game at the time! i’d say the initial fan response was better than ff16 it’s wild how it’s talked about now as if it was just obviously a total disaster

square were really bad about communicating this. they wanted this huge multimedia success but they completely botched it and its legacy is now to be a huge albatross around the game's neck. people genuinely think they cancelled the game's true ending lol when thats just not what happened

everyone brings this up when they talk about how much better a game that never existed like V XIII wouldve been but no one knows just how much worse the game would be with them. Would that every recent game of theirs could be "unfinished" in this way.

Depending on where you, the player, choose to cut it off, FF15 has 3 completely distinct endings that completely contradict each other with regards to what the themes and intended takeaway is.
