the thing i find most strange about this current wave of pr about don’t worry you can skip the grinding, you can speed up the cutscenes, don’t even worry man is that ff7 (original) is so simple it was a not insignificant of people’s literal first game ever and it sold a billion playstations

FF7 Revelation has more "on-screen guidance" to stop players feeling lost, but SE is already "considering options" for those who hate hand-holding www.resetera.com/threads/16...

it’s particularly obvious here because of the game’s nature as a remake but this kind of thing is everywhere. the market demands you make something with systems and menus and content for one audience then design a whole separate game to bypass that for another and try to sell it to both

i imagine this drives every developer up the wall that for big budget works the median fan probably likes around 40% of the game and actively resents the rest of it being there

This is low-key how I've been feeling with the new Fire Emblem. When I'm doing the main maps and the story I'm like "this is an incredible game, I love this". Then they want me to do boring open world exploration and I'm like, "damn I wish this game was 100 hrs shorter and just the good parts".

sorry if we made a game like the binding blade today without running around a hub talking to people and picking up items we’d all be fired by thursday

It genuinely makes me so sad too, cause when Fortunes Weave is good it's the best it's been in a while, but there's just too much stuff. I wanna get supports by playing the maps, not by doing weekly meal prep. I wanna play Fire Emblem, not a bad turn based third person dungeon crawler half the time

They've been trying to have this creep in a bit ever since Fates (running around a hub to do some minor things) and then when they make one skewed towards tactics-heads, (weapon triangle matters!) they forgot to put any writing in it so those people finished it and never spoke of the game ever again
